420 CLASS ASSOCIATION GRAND PRIX EVENT
-
We are pleased to be hosting the north region's 420 Class Association Grand Prix (GP) as part of this event and look forward to welcoming 420 sailors from across the country to the event.
-
The 420's will be racing as part of the championship fleet and their results will be extracted for use in their overall GP series results.
-
If you are sailing a 420, your results will count for both the regional championships and the GP, providing you meet the eligibility criteria for both competitions.

Which Fleet Should I Enter?
-
Championship Fleet: This is for all sailors who are regularly participating at regional, national or international level. There will be fleet racing for Optimist, RS Tera, Topper, RS Feva XL, ILCA4, ILCA6, 420, 29er, RS200 & 2000. A minimum number of 6 boats is required to have a fleet start.
-
Championship Green Fleet: This is for all sailors who have just moved into the main fleet at regional level. There will be coach support on the race course for these sailors between races to ensure you are supported and enjoy the event. If you have just moved into the championship fleet from the regatta fleet or are racing in the main fleet at the traveller series but not finishing in the top half on a regular basis then you might wish to consider this support offer. NEYYSA reserves the right to move sailors out of the green fleet into the main championship fleet or regatta fleet at the coach's discretion prior to or during the event.
-
Regatta Fleet: This is for all sailors who are new to racing and want a combination of coaching and racing during the weekend. The coaches will help you work towards independent racing with support as needed to cover the main points of racing and competing. If you are participating in the regional traveller series regatta fleets or have just started club racing then this is the place for you this weekend!
-
Regatta Rookie Fleet: NEYYSA is a racing organisation and wants to encourage young sailors into racing as we believe it helps deliver core sailing skills faster and with greater technical application. Sailors who do not yet have the competency to sail their own boat in the regatta fleet can join in via this option in large double-hander dinghies with a competent sailor on board to supervise and provide coaching and instruction during the racing. The competent sailors will be provided as part of the event team. Rookie sailors must be water confident with RYA Stage 2 or equivalent skills and must have their own sailing kit, including buoyancy aid. Minimum age 5 years old. This is not a babysitting service and NEYYSA reserves the right to decline an entry if we believe the entrant is not ready for race coaching.
Does my boat need to comply with class rules?
-
NEYYSA is an inclusive organisation and wants everyone to go sailing so boats do not need to fully meet the specific class association rules. However, we do expect boats to comply with the spirit of the class rules so putting an ILCA sail on a Topper isn't acceptable. You also don't need to be a member of the class association to participate in this event (although NEYYSA does encourage you to support your class association by joining).
-
Sailors who are entering the 420 Class Association Grand Prix event which is running in conjunction with the championships must have boats that comply with the class association rules; helm & crew also need to be members of the 420 class association.
